I recently made a booking with Iberia that was paid using Avios points, and I’m looking to cancel the flight. However, Iberia has a strict policy of no refunds, no changes to dates, and no rebooking options for Avios bookings. The airline is Qatar Airways.
Has anyone here faced a similar situation? Is there any possible solution to this, or any advice on how to proceed?
I would really appreciate any input or advice you can offer.
Did you book directly with Iberia or through BAEC?
I had to cancel a booking made with Avios for IB flights around New Year.
This was booked through BA Executive Club and issued on a BA Ticket.
After cancellation the refund of unused taxes and fees was almost instantaneous, but no sight of the Avios at first. Took me several attempts with the contact form and on the telephone until I finally got someone who re-credited the relevant amount while I was on phone…
In the end I only „lost“ a fee of approx. EUR 45 pP. Otherwise, all money paid and the Avios were returned.
But as I said, this was booked with BAEC and not with IB directly.
When booked through Iberia, it should be possible to cancel for a €25 fee until 24h before departure. Not sure, where the opposite information is coming from?
Where does it say that it’s non-refundable? If you look at Peer’s screenshot, you will see that it should be no problem at all to cancel your ticket and get the Avios and money back besides the litle fee.
Learned something new. What you could only try is to rebook it to a different date, where you might be able to use the ticket, unless you are not planning on flying the route in the future. Maybe the change doesn’t cost that much and that way you don’t loose all of the Avios for nothing.
